Madhya Pradesh tops in Swachh Survekshan

New Delhi. Madhya Pradesh has secured the first position among the best performing states in the annual Swachh Survekshan of the Central Government. It is followed by Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra. Indore was adjudged the cleanest city for the sixth time in a row, while Surat and Navi Mumbai have secured the second and third positions. The results of the survey were announced on Saturday. Indore and Surat retained their top spot in the big cities category this year, while Vijayawada lost its third position to Navi Mumbai.

According to the survey results, Tripura has secured the highest position among the states with less than one hundred urban local bodies. President Draupadi Murmu presented the prizes to the winners at a function on Saturday. Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and others were also present on the occasion. Panchgani of Maharashtra stood first in the category of cities with population less than one lakh. This was followed by Patan in Chhattisgarh and Karhad in Maharashtra.

Haridwar remained the cleanest city on the banks of the Ganges in the category of cities with a population of more than one lakh. This was followed by Varanasi and Rishikesh. According to the survey results, Bijnor stood first among the cities situated on the banks of Ganga with population less than one lakh. This was followed by Kannauj and Garhmukteshwar. In the survey, Devlali of Maharashtra was adjudged the cleanest cantonment board in the country.
